Farm Trans & Sustainability: Interview with Adriaan de Bruijne – CEO

It’s been a major focus for years, but hasn’t progressed as quickly as we had hoped: the energy transition. Everyone is working on it within their own scope, but it hasn’t truly taken off yet. We see this at Farm Trans as well. Sustainability is in our DNA, and from this deeply rooted motivation, we aspire to do as much as possible for a better world. However, we also have a financial responsibility. We need to remain realistic: it must be financially viable. It doesn’t make sense to fully green our fleet if the infrastructure isn’t ready or the demand for sustainable transport is lagging.

Still, we believe that waiting is not an option! It doesn’t fit with our philosophy. That’s why we’ve invested in our first new terminal with a charging station for twenty vehicles. Additionally, we will welcome our first two electric trucks in 2024. We will test them extensively to understand them inside and out. How do they perform in practice compared to our other trucks, and how can we best use them? Many of our clients are currently focused on making their own operations more sustainable, but as soon as they are ready to take the next sustainable step in the chain, we want to be ready to join in. Together, we can give the energy transition a boost.

This past year has also been dedicated to refining our sustainability strategy. We had many discussions with stakeholders and expect to consolidate everything into a unified narrative by the end of 2024. We are proud to announce that we will be doing this in collaboration with our Sustainability Manager, who will be joining us in August 2024.

One of our ambitions in this renewed strategy is to become a Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) company. Our goal is to further optimise and green the supply chain together with all our partners. I am confident that we will succeed. Perhaps the greatest strength of our company is that collaboration is ingrained in every part of Farm Trans. From the drivers to the management, everyone is motivated to make our company even stronger and more sustainable.
